Some people prefer to live in a small town. Others prefer to live in a big city. Which do you prefer and why?

I prefer to live in a big city. Even if there are benefits, there are also some disadvantages. I like to have everything in proximity. I mean, in big cities you can have access to most leisure activities. Firstly, in a big city we have better infrastructure and manufacturing. In big cities, people have more choices. In small cities people still get the choice but they have to consider the facilities of their city or have to move far. For example, most of the small cities in France have a football field, but what happens if people want to play basketball, hockey, golf or tennis. All of these facilities cost money and the majority of small cities don’t have the funds for it. Secondly, in small cities, the culture is different. In France, most inhabitants of small cities are concerned with what’s happening in the neighbourhood. Sometimes, there is an intrusion into the privacy of individuals. In small French cities, it’s not unusual to see some tension and quarrels in the neighbourhood. In that kind of city, it’s more difficult to hide the fact of cheating on one’s wife, being an alcoholic, etc… Even if I prefer to live in big cities, there are also some benefits to living in small cities. At first, I criticized the culture of small cities, but when you live in a small city there are relationships between neighbours. They help each other. They try to be nice and are concerned with others’ problems. It is well known, that it’s in big cities that people feel more lonely, not in small cities. Furthermore,, in small cities, living conditions are better than in big ones. Indeed, the environment is quite a bit better. There is less pollution. Life is more affected by the flora and fauna. To conclude, it is probably better to grow up in a small city rather than a big one. But, when we get older, I think it’s more pleasant to live in a big one.
