Travels in West Africa by Mary H. Kingsley

Mary Henrietta Kingsley (13 October 1862 – 3 June 1900) was an British explorer and writer who greatly influenced European ideas about Africa and its people. Kingsley was an outspoken critic of European colonialism, a champion for indigenous customs, and a dedicated campaigner for a revised British policy which supported traders and merchants over the needs of settlers and missionaries. Her adventures were extraordinary and fascinating. Among other things she fought with crocodiles, fell into native spear traps and was caught in a tornado on the slopes of Mount Cameroon. She traveled in West Africa wearing the same clothes she always wore in England: long, black, trailing skirts, tight waists, high collars and a small fur cap. The Objects I Liked In The School Museum

Our school was built in August, 1978. The school year began in October, 1979, and in this school were 1053 students. Valentinas Pocevičius became the first school director. He led it untill 1986. Algirdas Medeikis led from 1984 to 1988. Eugenijus Šaltis was the school director from 1988 to 1993. Algimantas Kaminskis is the head of the school now. The museum is small, but there is so much in it. On the walls are pictures of the old directors, teachers and school events. On the table there is a book where people have signed their names when they have been to our school, and also their gifts are displayed. I was pleasantly surprised because I didn't expect that the school had presidents. In all this time there have only been three. Also, in the photo album I saw the opera singer Liudas Mikalauskas.
I wish it to reised more than once..

People do many different things to stay healthy. What do you do to maintain your health? I do sports , drink milk and water . We must eat well . We should not eat too much animal fat and salt. We must be careful with sugar. But unfortunately that isn't enough to prevent disease for life.Alcohol and tobacco are very dangerous for the human body.

The Success Principles

I chose this article to learn how I can succeed as soon as possible because I always felt that something that is necessary for success was missing in my life. However, after finishing reading it, I noticed that my belief that I was lacking something was mistaken. Indeed, I have every resource I need to be successful, including my loving family, supportive people around me, and academic opportunities. Instead, what I should do is continue making an effort. Now, I say to myself " Don't give up on your dream! Keep going!".

Healthy life.

A healthy life is a life which fulfills some rules. Some of them are given here:
1. Physical activity, it helps to keep body and mind in balance.
As for me I like dancing and swimming. My husband likes doing karate.
In the past I liked running.

2. Simple food. Pure water. Everybody should avoid fast food, fried food, chips, lots of sweets and fat.
3. Good rest, neither too long, nor too short. For me it`s about 8 hours, but every day I sleep from 6 to 7 hours and more on Sundays or holidays.
4. It`s good once a week to visit the doctor and to do a test.
5. It`s important to have a hobby or to do interesting work.

My first job interview - Part 2

When I started to work in that pizzeria, I soon realized that it wouldn't be so easy. We rarely leave before 3 a.m. That was specially hard on Sundays because, on the next day, I had to wake up at 5:30 a.m. to go to school. Furthermore, on Friday and Saturday nights, my friends usually were hanging out and having fun, while I was always working.
3 months passed, the demand at the pizzeria had clearly dropped. Then, our salaries were delayed by the owner.. After I had been laid up for a day, he told me he wasn't needing my work anymore. He promised to pay me all his debts in a month.
It took him almost 3 months to pay, even though I had requested the payment more than 10 times.

Well, can you believe it? We've already made it into the third month of 2012! How much did you learn this past month?

In looking at the Honour Roll, it's clear that some of you have been hard at work! Good job and well done to our top 25 this month. We had five members make it past the illustrious 10,000 mark, but only the top three can make it to the podium.

Garnering first place this month is mikola, who managed a remarkable Activity Score of over 35,000! In second and in hot pursuit of the gold crown is Walhalla who broke through to a spectacular score of nearly 31,000. Third place goes to rae68, who has been on the Honour Roll an absolutely staggering 11 out of the past 12 months. Way to go!

LingQ 101, Steve's Introduction to LingQ

This is an interesting text explaining how people can learn a language. I really like what I've seen on this web page. I think that I can improve my language skills if I spend enough time doing what the text suggests. My current situation is having a lack of time. I can read and understand English texts related to my work, but listening comprehension is more difficult for me.

120302 Making 20,000 Luminaries

A friend of mine living in Morioka, one of the areas struck by the catastrophic earthquake and Tsunami last 3/11, is helping out to make 20,000 milk carton luminaries for a memorial service that will be held on 3/11. The earthquake claimed 19,312 lives in the blink of an eye. These 20,000 luminaries are meant for each victim, and locals will sing the requiem at the ceremony. Lots of people have sent messages to decorate the luminaries, and some of them came from abroad. They want to express their gratitude for those who showed concern. She asked me to help spread the word about the event in English. I’ll ask English tutors and students from all over the world to share their words in support of their efforts to restore their town.
